The short answer
Install IPTV Smarters Pro from your device’s app store, choose “Login with Xtream Codes API”, and enter the username, password and full server URL including the port. The two settings to change immediately are the buffer (lower it to 2–3 seconds) and the decoder (set it to hardware). Everything else is optional.
Why IPTV Smarters Pro
It is the most widely available IPTV player there is — it exists on Fire TV, Android, Android TV, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Windows and Mac, which no competitor manages. That makes it the sensible default for a first setup and for any household running several different kinds of device, because the interface is the same everywhere.
It is not the most refined player on Android — TiviMate has a better guide and better channel management — but it is free, it is everywhere, and it signs in without fuss. Our player comparison covers when to move on.
Installing it
| Device | Where to get it |
|---|---|
| Fire TV Stick / Fire TV | Amazon Appstore — search from the home screen |
| Android phone, tablet, TV box | Google Play Store |
| iPhone, iPad, Apple TV | Apple App Store |
| Windows / Mac | The official desktop build |
| Samsung / LG Smart TV | Not available — use IBO Player Pro instead |
Install it, open it, and accept the terms prompt on first launch.
The Xtream Codes login, field by field
On the first screen, choose Login with Xtream Codes API rather than “Load Your Playlist or File/URL”. The Xtream Codes route brings the TV guide and the on-demand library with it; the M3U route often does not. Here is why.
- Any Name — a label on your device only. “Varesteam4K” works.
- Username — copy it exactly as sent. Capitals matter.
- Password — the same. If you are typing with a TV remote, use the phone app for your device instead; it turns your phone into the keyboard.
- Server URL — the full address, including
http://and including the port number, likehttp://server.address:8080. This field is where almost every failed login comes from.
Press Add User. The channel list and guide download in well under a minute on a normal connection.
Settings to change right away
Go to Settings from the main menu.
- Player Settings → buffer. Set 2–3 seconds. Counter-intuitively, a bigger buffer does not fix a weak connection — it delays the freeze and slows every channel change.
- Player Settings → decoder. Hardware (HW). If the picture tears or audio drifts, try HW+ instead; the right choice varies by device.
- Stream Format. Leave on automatic unless support tells you otherwise.
- EPG. Let the guide finish its first download before judging it. A full 7-day EPG takes a minute or two.
- Parental controls. If children use the TV, set a PIN and lock the adult group here. It takes thirty seconds.
- Favourites. Build them. Eighty thousand channels is unusable until your thirty are in one group — press and hold a channel to add it.
Finding your way around
The main screen splits into Live TV, Movies, Series and Catch-up. Live TV holds the channel list and the guide; Movies and Series hold the on-demand library, which is searchable — type a title rather than scrolling. Catch-up gives you the last few days on supported channels, which is how you watch something that aired last night.
Inside Live TV, channels are grouped by country and category. Hide the groups you will never watch; the list becomes manageable immediately.
Errors, and what they actually mean
| What you see | What it means | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Invalid credentials” | Usually the server URL, not the password | Check http:// and the port are both there |
| Login hangs, then fails | Server unreachable from your network | Restart the router; test on mobile data |
| Channels load, no TV guide | Signed in with M3U rather than Xtream Codes | Delete the profile and re-add with Xtream Codes |
| Black screen, audio plays | Decoder mismatch | Switch between HW and HW+ |
| One channel will not open | That source feed | Try its other quality; report the channel name to us |
| Everything buffers | Connection | See the buffering fix list |
| Worked yesterday, not today | Expired plan, or too many screens at once | Check both before anything else |
Running it on several devices
You can install the app on as many devices as you like — what is limited is how many watch at the same time. One connection is one simultaneous stream. A household where two people watch different things in the evening wants two connections; buying one and being cut off mid-programme is the most common avoidable complaint we see.
When to move to a different player
Smarters is the right first player. Consider moving if: you are on Android or Fire TV and want a better guide and recording (TiviMate), you are on a Samsung or LG Smart TV where Smarters is not available (IBO Player Pro), or the interface simply irritates you. The subscription is the same either way — the same login works in any player.
Next steps
If you already have details, install the app and follow the login steps above. If you do not, ask for a trial and set it up with the trial credentials — the process is identical, so your setup is already done when you order. Fire Stick owners should also read the Firestick guide, which covers the device settings this page does not.
